The Academic Programme Schedule
The Academic Programme takes place during the four afternoons of the Symposium with Set A lasting from 1.30 - 2.45 and, after a short break, Set B from 3.00 - 4.15. There will be some 20 parallel events each afternoon in Sets A and B. Some events take place in one Set and other parallel sessions run across the two sets.
The Schedule that follows is like a menu that allows you to see all that is on offer, on a day-by-day basis. Each of the 220 contributors to this Programme has an abstract for each contribution they are making. To go directly to The Abstracts, which are in alphabetical order of the presenter's name, please click here: THE ABSTRACTS.
Daily Themes:
Each day has an overall theme but many of the contributions are allocated to days outside their theme to safeguard against timetable clashes.
| Tuesday: Clinical - In the Consulting Room Wednesday: Innovations in Practice |
Thursday: Wider applications - Culture and Society Friday: Training and Evaluation |
Presentation Formats:
Contributions are provided in any one of five formats:
| 1: Sub-Plenaries (SP) 3: Paper Presentations (PP) 5: Poster presentations /Exhibitions |
2 Paper Presentation/Workshops (PW) 4: Workshops (W) |
The following Academic Programme Schedule gives information about 1 - 4 above. Each day has its own numbered sequence, so Tuesday, for example, has its own Sub Plenaries numbered 1 - 4, and Wednesday will have a different numbered sequence. In Sub-Plenaries and Paper Presentations, SP and PP, the contribution is weighted towards material of a teaching kind. In Workshops (W), the contribution is more experiential. Paper Presentation/Workshops (PW) combine the two in a format we devised to emphasize teaching material in the first afternoon session and a workshop format in the second, where possible. We have offered the contributors' material across this range of formats to maximise options for your choice.
On any one day you can enrol for something that lasts through both afternoon sessions; or attend for those things that allow you to move between locations, from Set A to Set B. You can elect to do something intellectually stimulating with clinical or conceptual material; or something experiential and emotionally sustaining in a workshop that lasts for one or both afternoon sessions; or for two afternoons. You will be required to sign up in advance for only the Workshops. In order to help you make your choices, the Programme Schedule is set out in full in the following pages. After that, in The Abstracts section, we have enclosed a full set of abstracts for each presentation, organised in alphabetical order of the contributor's family name. Each Abstract is followed by the code that will allow you to find it in the Schedule. Towards the end of The Book of Abstracts is the Index of Contributors organised in alphabetical order. For each Contributor to the Academic Programme there is a reference to where you will find them in the Schedule.
Other than the Workshops, for which you will need to enrol at Registration to be sure of a place, there is open attendance for all other events. Some rooms may fill up so, to be confident of a place, be sure to get there before it starts. If something you want to attend is full then look at the programme again. Something like it may be on offer elsewhere in the week; or you may find some alternative from the range of available options. If there is someone's work you want to hear about, but cannot do so because the room is full or their contribution clashes with your own, look at the Index of Contributors and you may find them presenting at another time.
Members of the two responsible Committees - the Scientific Programme Committee and Local Organising Committee - will be available during Registration and throughout the Symposium to help you with choices and options, and together with staff from Confer, they will be around to help you find your way to what you are looking for. For further guidance please look at the Q & A Section (Question and Answer Section) in The Book of Abstracts and in The Book of Delegates.
