Psychotherapy and Soul
Contemporary perspectives on spirituality and the transpersonal in clinical practice

Monday evenings 16 September - 28 October 2013

In recent years there has been a wave of renewed interest in teachings that have been long held by mystical and indigenous traditions. At the same time there has been a widening and deepening of the terrain for therapy with a greater emphasis on the nature of consciousness and reality. Yoga, for example, is now mainstream and the value of meditation is widely recognised within many psychology modalities. Integrative approaches in psychotherapy increasingly support the idea that mind, body and spirit are of equal importance and suggest that integrating spiritual perspectives can radically help the work flow more smoothly.

Alongside these changes, clinicians are also writing about clients who present multi-dimensional experiences, spiritual and transpersonal phenomena. These may confront the practitioner with complex dilemmas over the meaning of such experiences.

Psychotherapy which includes the soul and higher dimensions of consciousness is the focus of this series of presentations, which will outline some of these concepts, illustrating ways that clinicians are integrating 'soul work' into their psychotherapy practices in order to provide a spiritual freedom in the relational space.
