A Diploma in Practising Energy Psychotherapy

David Feinstein – On Energy Psychology

In this video David Feinstein shares his initial doubts, scepticism and curiosity following his first encounter with the treatment of a phobia using acupoint tapping.  He goes on to show US combat veterans successfully using tapping to overcome the effects of long-standing PTSD. Feinstein explores the neurological mechanisms involved, asking: “What does tapping on acupuncture points do?” What are the pathways by which acupuncture signals travel?”, “How do signals get to the correct brain areas?”, “Can tapping on acupuncture points accelerate deep psychological change?” etc. When treating a woman with a phobia of heights, Feinstein elaborates on the basic steps of this form of energy therapy and goes on to explore some of the current debates in energy psychology. He gives an overview of research outcomes (random-controlled trials) including meta-analyses of effect sizes and the use of physiological markers including cortisol levels, gene expression, brain wave patterns and hyperarousal.  Feinstein briefly overviews the range of publications on energy psychology (many of them mainstream) including evaluations of clinical trials, and ends with a light-hearted but informative summary of the mechanisms that may underlie how tapping works.
